Terms of service

Effective 2026-09-11. These terms cover the Recordwire website, REST API, MCP server, and webhook subscriptions. By creating an account or using a key you agree to them.

The service

Recordwire gives you programmatic access to business-registry records and change events that U.S. state governments publish. Coverage, update cadence, and the fields available differ by state and are listed on the coverage page. We add and occasionally remove states as official sources change.

Your account and keys

You are responsible for keeping your API keys secret and for everything done with them. Revoke a key from your account page the moment you think it has leaked. One account is one customer; do not share keys with other companies.

Plans, billing, and cancellation

Plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe. You can change or cancel your plan any time from the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month and there are no partial refunds. Prices can change with 30 days' notice by email. Rate limits are documented and apply to every plan.

Acceptable use

Use the data for legitimate business purposes: verification, onboarding, monitoring, research, sales, and building products. Do not use it to harass or stalk individuals, to violate any law, or to resell the raw feed as your own registry product. Do not attempt to circumvent rate limits or access keys or accounts that are not yours.

The data

Records come from official state publications and are provided as the state publishes them. We normalize them but do not certify them. States make mistakes and publish late; we cannot warrant that any record is complete, current, or accurate, and the service is not a substitute for a certified copy from the state. You are responsible for any decision you make with the data.

Availability

We aim for the service to be available continuously but do not promise an uptime level. Scheduled maintenance is announced by email when it affects the API.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Recordwire is provided as is, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the fees you paid in the three months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.

Termination

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. You can close yours any time by cancelling and emailing us. Sections about data, liability, and payment survive.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States.
