Privacy policy
Effective 2026-09-11. Recordwire is a business-registry data service operated by Brian Via (Northern Virginia, United States). This page says what we collect about you, what we do with it, and how to reach us.
What we collect
- Account data. When you sign in we receive your email address and a user ID from Clerk, our login provider. Clerk handles passwords, email verification, and Google sign-in; we never see your password.
- Billing data. Payments go through Stripe. We store your Stripe customer and subscription IDs and your plan. We never store card numbers.
- Usage data. API requests are logged with a hash of the key used, the endpoint, the timestamp, and the requesting IP address, for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Cloudflare, which hosts Recordwire, keeps request logs for up to seven days.
- Webhook subscriptions. If you create a subscription, we store the endpoint URL and filters you give us and a record of each delivery attempt.
What we do not collect
No analytics cookies, no advertising trackers, no selling or sharing of personal data. The only cookies on this site are Clerk's session cookies, which exist to keep you signed in.
The registry data itself
Recordwire republishes public business-registry records that state governments publish in bulk. Those records can contain names of company officers, registered agents, and business addresses. We publish them as the state does, to our API customers under contract. We do not show officer names on public web pages. If a state record about you is wrong, the correction has to happen at the state; we pick it up from the next file the state publishes.
Who processes data for us
- Clerk for sign-in.
- Stripe for payments.
- Cloudflare for hosting and request logs.
- PlanetScale for the database.
Retention and deletion
Account and billing records are kept while your account exists and for seven years after for tax records. Request logs expire after seven days. Email privacy@recordwirehq.com to delete your account; we remove it within 30 days and cancel any subscription.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we email account holders before it takes effect.
